This weekend, we hark back to the days of pre-independence as director Vijay transports us to the Madras Presidency in all its regal splendor and vintage architecture to narrate the love story of an elite British lady and an Indian dhobi. The film has been beautifully made by Vijay and I am eagerly waiting for its result.” A twist comes to their affair when India gets independence on 15 August 1947. On ‘Madrasapattinam’, which is hitting screens today, he says, “I play Ilamparithi, a young dhobi who falls in love with the daughter of Governor of the Madras province. For a fun loving guy like me, acting in comedy scenes without laughing is a lot of hard work.”
But the real challenge is performing it before the camera with all seriousness. It’s doubly so for a person like me.”Įlaborating, he says, “When Rajesh enacts a scene, it would sound simple. The actor, who has acquired the release rights of the film from its producer K S Srinivasan, says, “Attempting humour in front of the camera is a gift and not everyone could do it with ease. Having played serious roles in films like ‘Arindhum Ariyamalum’, ‘Pattiyal’, ‘Naan Kadavul’ and ‘Madrasapattinam’, Arya finds it difficult to work in ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’, a full-length comedy movie by Rajesh of ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ fame. So the spectacular locations from trendy London to the scenic Mysore and Coonoor to the traditional houses of Karaikudi, the film is going to be a treat for eyes as well. ‘Chikku Bhukku’ is a romantic travel diary, which travels from London and reaches Karaikudi at the end. Music by Colonial Cousins Hariharan and Leslie Lewis. Most of the technical crew worked in this film are from the Jeeva team. Arya is a popular face after ‘Varudu’ in Telugu and Shriya is already a brand in Tollywood. ‘Chikku Bhukku’ is ready for release and will have a simultaneous release in Tamil and Telugu because of the popularity of the lead stars in Andhra also. Manikandan, who impressed us with completing ‘Dhaam Dhoom’ in style after the untimely demise of Jeeva has directed this slick flick. The film stars Arya and Shriya Saran in lead roles with Bollywood star Amrita Rao’s younger sister Preetika debuting in a very important role. This is the banner that gave the recent blockbuster ‘Dhaam Dhoom’ and so expectations are high. The celebration will begin with the audio launch in July.
